The Old Post House came into the Tovey family with Duncan and Connie, who initially rented it. We believe they had the garden room/wash room/office built. After Duncan’s death, it was bought for the family by Mrs Edith A H Douglas-Hamilton (1871-1927), who was long known to the family.

Duncan and Connie moved the front door from the centre to the left and Duncan Lorimer Pattison later built a large extension, providing a drawing room downstairs and further bedrooms upstairs. They were neighbours to Sidney Sime, the artist.

DLPT lived there with his wife Joan, who remained there until her death in 1976, following which it was sold.

Originally there was an acre of garden, full of conker trees, with beautiful rose beds. In the middle was a sun dial with paths leading away from it in all directions.
